Michael Howley

Described by his peers as having 'the sound' Michael has forged a reputation of excellence both as a band player and soloist alike.

Michael has performed around the world with some of the UK's finest ensembles. The former principal Euphonium player of the Yorkshire Building Society Band, the World Famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Michael has also performed with the Halle Orchestra and Folk Music superstars, John McCusker, Eddie Reader and Kate Rusby.

Michael is renowned for blistering technique and an artistic panache all delivered with a signature tone which is unmistakably his. Described by his peers as having 'the sound' Michael has forged a reputation of excellence both as a band player and soloist alike.

A former principal Euphonium of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Michael studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with James Gourlay, Steven Mead and David Thornton. Following his studies, Michael took a position as Senior Lecturer at Leeds College of Music.

Relinquishing this position in 2015 to Join Her Majesties Royal Air Force, Michael is currently the Principal Euphonium with The Band of The Royal Air Force College, a position he's held since 2016.
